The well-publicized Trayvon Martin case involved the Florida “Stand Your Ground” statute which has sparked discussions about race, bias, gun control, and self-defense. Rivero Mestre sponsored and co-hosted a town hall meeting where an extensive panel of attorneys and law professors discussed the complex interplay between race and the statute’s application. In Andres Rivero’s welcome speech, he said that he supported the discussion, hoping it would help the community understand what happened and begin to heal from the tragedy.
